These Republicans sank Mayorkas’ impeachment

Some House Republicans’ defections thwarted the GOP’s bid to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a tense vote on Tuesday night. The vote concluded at 214-216, with only House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) absent due to medical treatment. Scalise’s absence and the unexpected participation of Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who had missed earlier votes, were crucial factors in the outcome.
