Another major name out at CNN amid scandal

Alisyn Camerota’s departure from her role as CNN’s 10 PM primetime host has been confirmed following a recent scandal involving her and former network chief Jeff Zucker. This development comes in the wake of several changes at CNN since Zucker’s departure in February 2022.

The network announced that Abby Phillip, a senior political correspondent who previously hosted Inside Politics Sunday, will be taking over as the new host for the 10 PM primetime hour every weeknight. In addition, Laura Coates, the network’s chief legal analyst, is reported to be anchoring CNN’s 11 PM hour.

Abby Phillip’s and Laura Coates’ appointments mark a significant shift for CNN’s lineup, with both hosts succeeding Alisyn Camerota’s CNN Tonight program, which aired from 10 PM to midnight. Camerota hinted at her departure with an Instagram post that alluded to “new adventures,” following which the news of her replacement was unveiled.

As part of her new role, Camerota is set to focus on reporting for CNN’s long-form programs, including the Sunday night series The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper.

The backdrop of Camerota’s exit involves a recent scandal, where she and former network chief Jeff Zucker were spotted holding hands after a brunch party at Don Lemon’s Hamptons residence in July.

In response, CNN had been exploring potential replacements for Camerota. While there were indications that Sara Sidner was being considered, the network ultimately selected Abby Phillip and Laura Coates to share the 10 PM to midnight primetime timeslot, marking a notable transition for CNN’s programming lineup.
