On Tuesday, while speaking at a CNN town hall, former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg was asked about the media-created narrative that somehow President Trump is against him as a gay man to win the presidency and if the country is ready for a gay president.
Buttigieg responded with a personal attack on President Trump, who has repeatedly said he would vote for a gay president. He also said “it’s good” of Buttigieg to campaign with his husband.
But despite the President’s statements of support for gay people in politics, Buttigieg made a low blow to Trump based on a conspiracy theory that Trump paid off porn star “Stormy Daniels,” whose lawyer was convicted of extortion.
Buttigieg said, “My marriage — it’s never involved me having to send hush money to a porn star after cheating on my spouse. With him or her,” giving the Democrat audience a chuckle.
“They wanna debate family values, let’s debate family values. I’m ready,” Buttigieg concluded.
The Mayor also said he doesn’t see “any compatibility” between supporting President Trump and the teachings in Scripture after declaring that God “does not belong to a political party.”
The low blows come as Buttigieg has repeatedly tried to make his sexuality an issue in his campaign, claiming victimhood at every turn possible to slam the President and the Vice President of being anti-gay, despite the amount of evidence to the antithesis.
The Democrat candidates will debate tonight in Las Vegas ahead of the Nevada caucuses. Buttigieg is expected to bring up the issue again while on the stage.
