Late Tuesday, Nancy Pelosi sent out a statement on Twitter, criticizing President Trump for his action to take out Iranian terrorist General Qasem Soleimani, which appeared to defend the terrorist nation, calling the President’s action a “needless provocation.”
The tweet came as Iran shot dozens of missiles at the largest U.S. airbase in Iraq, which resulted in no casualties or deaths but have escalated tensions in the region following the death of the Iranian warlord. Trump’s action to take out Soleimani was based on multiple factors, as retaliation for killing an American contractor, an attack on the American embassy in Baghdad, and Soleimani’s plan to murder high-ranking diplomats and U.S. troops.
Pelosi’s tweet read, “Closely monitoring the situation following bombings targeting U.S. troops in Iraq. We must ensure the safety of our service members, including ending needless provocations from the Administration and demanding that Iran cease its violence. America & the world cannot afford war.”
President Trump is expected to address the nation on Wednesday morning, however, it is unclear what he will say during the speech. A recent tweet about the conflict reads, “All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.”
