Ricky Gervais’ brutal Golden Globes speech trumped all other speeches that night, stats show

Sunday’s Golden Globes got super political, despite host Ricky Gervais making a warning, saying, “If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a political platform to make a political speech.” Michelle Williams bragged about killing her unborn child to advance her career, Patricia Arquette blamed Trump for Iranian aggression and Joaquin Phoenix pontificated about “climate change.”

But the numbers show just how effective the Hollywood elites were at captivating America, and it’s just as predicted: Gervais’ opening monologue so far has 10.7 million YouTube views as of Wednesday morning, more than every other clip of the show posted on the platform combined.

Gervais, who blasted Hollywood for their hypocrisy, appears to be resonating with the American people, despite Hollywood’s objections to his bold and ruthless statements.
