JD Vance (R-OH), who is running alongside 45th President Donald Trump, “tried to tie Harris” to the policies of the Biden administration during a rally in Big Rapids, Michigan.

The headline from Politico’s X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday read, “Vance tries to tether Harris to Biden during Michigan rally,” referencing a report by journalist Mia McCarthy. The article stated, “Speaking at a rally in Big Rapids, Michigan, former President Donald Trump’s running mate tried to tie Harris to the Biden administration’s policies.”

This claim was quickly flagged by a “Community Notes” correction on X, which pointed out the obvious: “Harris is currently President Biden’s Vice President.” The mistake led to an outpouring of reactions from readers accusing Politico of “gaslighting,” a term defined by the American Psychological Association as manipulating someone into doubting their own understanding of reality.

One X user remarked, “We’ve reached apex gaslighting, people. It doesn’t get any more ‘believe us and not your own eyes’ than this.” Another user expressed disbelief, writing, “This is a level of media gaslighting I’ve never seen before. SHE’S HIS GOD DAMN VICE PRESIDENT! RIGHT NOW!” Others echoed similar sentiments, with one person sarcastically commenting, “Harris is tied to Biden because… wait for it… SHE IS HIS VICE PRESIDENT.”

GovTrack listed 100 senators in 2019, placing Harris at the top spot as the most liberal member, followed by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at #99.

However, the list is no longer accessible, with attempts to view the page now leading to a “page not found” message. GovTrack, known for its work in government transparency, describes itself as a platform that publishes “the status of federal legislation” and provides information on elected representatives and senators, including their voting records and original research on legislation. 

The website claims to be “one of the oldest government transparency websites in the world.”

In a 2020 interview with CBS News’s Norah O’Donnell, Harris was asked about being “considered the most liberal United States senator.” She responded, “Somebody said that, and it was actually Mike Pence on the debate stage,” referencing her vice-presidential debate with Pence. O’Donnell then clarified that the “nonpartisan” GovTrack had given her that ranking, citing her support for policies like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All.

This removal of the list follows other recent clarifications about Harris’s past roles and statements. Axios recently issued an article update correcting an earlier description of Harris as a “border czar,” noting that the term had been incorrectly attributed to her by various lawmakers and media outlets.

Speaking to ABC News, Ingram, who hosts “The Earl Ingram Show” on WMCS, confirmed, “Yes, I was given some questions for Biden.” He noted that he couldn’t cover all the topics he intended before the interview concluded.

This disclosure makes Ingram the second radio host this weekend to admit to receiving predetermined questions for a Biden interview. Andrea Lawful-Sanders, host of “The Source” on WURD in Philadelphia, similarly revealed on CNN that she was sent questions for her interview with Biden for approval. “I approved them,” Lawful-Sanders stated, outlining that her questions focused on Biden’s accomplishments, debate performance, and election stakes.

CNN’s Victor Blackwell observed that the questions Lawful-Sanders asked were “essentially the same” as those in Ingram’s interview. This similarity raises concerns about the authenticity of the interactions and the potential impact on public perception of Biden’s readiness.

Ingram expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interview Biden, despite the pre-approved questions. “To think that I was going to get an opportunity to ask any question to the president of the United States, I think, is a bit more than anybody should expect,” he told ABC News. He downplayed the issue, emphasizing the significance of the interview opportunity.

Critics argue that providing questions in advance may not alleviate concerns about Biden’s capability to lead. Blackwell commented, “It’s just that if the White House is trying now to prove the vim, vigor, acuity of the president, I don’t know how they do that by sending questions first before the interview so that the president knows what’s coming.”

In defense, Biden campaign spokesperson Lauren Hitt explained to Fox News Digital that sharing preferred topics is a common practice. “These questions were relevant to news of the day – the president was asked about his debate performance as well as what he’d delivered for black Americans. We do not condition interviews on acceptance of these questions, and hosts are always free to ask the questions they think will best inform their listeners,” Hitt stated.

On Sunday, NBC News announced that “Meet The Press” anchor Chuck Todd will be leaving the program at the end of the Summer. Chief White House Correspondent and co-anchor Kristen Welker will succeed Todd. Welker has been with NBC News since 2010.

“While today is not my final show, this will be my final summer here at Meet the Press,” Todd said on the air Sunday. “I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade.” 

“Just as important, I’m also ready to take a step back because I know the person whom I’m passing the baton to is somebody who’s been ready for this for a while,” Todd said of Welker. “This is exactly how I always hoped this would end, that I’d be passing the baton to her.” 

Todd has anchored the program since 2014. Meet The Press is the longest-running political talk show in television history.
