President Donald Trump was greeted by California Governor Gavin Newsom upon arriving in Los Angeles on Friday. The meeting followed Trump’s sharp criticism of Newsom’s handling of the state’s wildfire crisis and other management issues.

Trump, 78, and Newsom, 57, engaged in a brief but animated exchange on the tarmac after Trump descended from Air Force One. The interaction featured a mix of gestures, including pointing, a fist pump, and a thumbs-up. Both leaders also exchanged shoulder pats, and Newsom greeted First Lady Melania Trump with a kiss on the cheek.

“I appreciate the governor coming out and meeting me, Gavin,” Trump said to reporters after the exchange. Newsom had announced the previous evening that he would meet the president, despite not being formally invited. Trump acknowledged the devastation caused by the wildfires, likening it to the aftermath of a bombing. “You got hit by a bomb,” he told Newsom.

The president emphasized the need for solutions, saying, “We’ll be talking a little bit. We want to get it fixed. We want to get the problem fixed. And there will be some ways.” Trump also assured, “We will get it permanently fixed so it can’t happen again.”

In turn, Newsom thanked Trump publicly for his presence and support. “Most importantly, thank you for being here. It means a great deal to us. We’re going to need your support. We’re going to need your help,” the governor said. He also referenced the federal government’s assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding, “You were there for us during COVID — I don’t forget that. And I have all the expectations that we’ll be able to work together to get the speedy recovery.”

The visit came amid tensions between the two leaders. Earlier this month, Trump had called for Newsom’s resignation, accusing him of mismanaging state resources, particularly water supplies, which Trump claimed prioritized protecting an endangered fish species over wildfire prevention. Meanwhile, Newsom has countered Trump’s criticisms, accusing him of spreading misinformation about California’s challenges.

Trump’s visit also highlighted a contentious political condition tied to federal aid. Hours before the trip, the president suggested that disaster assistance for California could be contingent on the state adopting stricter voter ID laws. When asked about this by a reporter, Newsom sidestepped the issue, saying, “I have all the confidence in the world we’ll work that out.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s criticisms, blaming Newsom for the severity of the wildfire damage. “Certainly Gavin Newsom — or ‘Newscum,’ as President Trump likes to call him — has wronged the people of his state,” Leavitt said aboard Air Force One.

The wildfires, which have caused an estimated $250 billion in damage, were exacerbated by dry fire hydrants and delayed responses in some areas. As California faces the long road to recovery, the exchange between Trump and Newsom reflected the broader political and practical challenges in addressing the state’s crises.

A recent analysis by the New York Post has shown that fast food prices have seen an uptick in California following the implementation of new legislation that introduces a $20 minimum wage for employees at restaurant chains with 60 or more locations nationwide, with the exception of bakeries that produce and sell their own bread. This legislative change encapsulated in AB 1228 and signed by far-lft Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom last September not only raises wages but also forms a “Fast Food Council” tasked with potential further wage increases and setting working condition standards.

Notably, Burger King witnessed one of the most significant price jumps, with the Texas Double Whopper meal escalating from $15.09 to $16.89 on April 1st, marking an almost 12% increase. Similarly, the Big Fish meal saw a 53% rise from $7.49 to $11.49. Other menu items across various chains experienced more modest hikes, ranging from 25 cents to a dollar.

However, the Post’s investigation found that not all chains adjusted their prices in response to the wage increase. For instance, Chick-fil-A, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s maintained their prices, despite one McDonald’s franchise owner expressing to CNNBusiness the challenges posed by the sudden wage surge. “As a business owner, when you’re dealing with this kind of extraordinary overnight change, you know, a 25% increase in wages,… (no) stone has to remain unturned,” said McDonald’s franchisee Scott Rodrick. “And so we have looked at price, although I can’t charge $20 for a Happy Meal. My customers’ appetite to absorb menu board prices is not unlimited.”

In 2022, the median hourly wage for fast-food workers in the U.S. stood at $13.43, while their counterparts in California earned slightly more, averaging $16.60, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics. With the new wage law, the annual income for these workers would amount to $41,600.

Fox News Digital reached out to several fast-food chains, including Burger King, In-N-Out, Hart House, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, and McDonald’s for comments on the price adjustments, but responses were pending at the time of the report.

Hunter Biden’s legal battle took a turn for the worse as a federal court in California rejected all of his efforts to dismiss tax charges against him. This development ensures that the criminal proceedings involving a mix of felony and misdemeanor charges related to tax evasion and other financial discrepancies from 2016 to 2019 will proceed.

Biden, who has maintained his innocence by pleading not guilty, saw his legal team present multiple arguments last month to counter the charges.

They claimed political motivations were at play, particularly highlighting concerns about the involvement of two IRS agents who later emerged as whistleblowers. However, their attempts, encapsulated in eight distinct motions each grounded in different legal theories, were unsuccessful.

U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi evaluated the arguments and concluded that the defense had not substantiated claims of political bias affecting the case.

“The motion is remarkable in that it fails to include a single declaration, exhibit, or request for judicial notice,” Scarsi noted. “Instead, Defendant cites portions of various Internet news sources, social media posts, and legal blogs. These citations, however, are not evidence.”

He added that much of the supposed evidence Biden’s legal team presented contained “multiple levels of hearsay.”

Moreover, Scarsi dismissed the notion of selective or vindictive prosecution brought forth by Biden’s team, finding no substantial proof to support claims of unfair targeting or discriminatory intent in the legal actions against Biden.

“Defendant fails to present a reasonable inference, let alone clear evidence, of discriminatory effect and discriminatory purpose,” he wrote, concluding, “Accordingly, the selective prosecution claim fails.”

The implications of these rulings are significant for Biden, who could potentially face up to 17 years in prison if found guilty of the tax-related charges. Additionally, the broader legal landscape for Biden includes facing gun charges in Delaware, for which he has also pleaded not guilty, while simultaneously being a central figure in an ongoing House impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.

In the wake of a significant minimum wage increase in California, fast food establishments are adjusting their workforce, with many employees facing layoffs. The new legislation, which Governor Gavin Newsom enacted, raises the minimum wage to $20 for fast-food workers in chains with over 60 locations nationally. This change, supported by labor unions and the healthcare sector, is anticipated to impact a broad swath of the industry starting next week.

Notably affected are pizza chains, with reports from The Wall Street Journal highlighting that numerous restaurants are not only laying off staff but also reducing work hours and pausing new hires. Pizza Hut, for example, has already announced the dismissal of over a thousand delivery drivers, a move echoed by other franchises within the state. These businesses are responding to the increased wage costs by altering their delivery models, including shifting to third-party delivery services.

Parham Barati, Unsplash.

The law, encompassing a wide range of fast food establishments, does not offer exemptions, even for businesses specializing in items like ice cream, coffee, or donuts. This comprehensive approach has prompted companies such as Chipotle and Starbucks to reevaluate their pricing and compensation strategies to maintain operational sustainability in light of the rising labor costs.

Starbucks, for instance, emphasizes its commitment to enhancing employee benefits and overall compensation, which averages $30 per hour when factoring in benefits, underscoring the company’s philosophy that shared success extends to all its partners.

As these adjustments take place, the implications of the new minimum wage law continue to unfold, impacting not only the businesses and their employees but also potentially the prices consumers will pay for fast food services in California.

Americans are accumulating significant credit card debt, reaching approximately $1.3 trillion. In the past year alone, an additional $108 billion was added to this growing pile. The contribution to this debt varies significantly across different cities.

WalletHub conducted a study to identify which cities have experienced the most growth in credit card debt. This analysis involved comparing over 180 cities using the most recent data on consumer finance from TransUnion and the Federal Reserve, with adjustments made for inflation.

Here are the top 10 cities:

After a heated Senate primary in California, Democrat Katie Porter conceded defeat while delivering a pointed critique of fellow Democrat Adam Schiff and third-party special interest groups. She suggested that Schiff’s campaign, instead of focusing on his candidacy, expended considerable resources to elevate Republican Steve Garvey.

Porter, recognized for her progressive stance and robust questioning of pharmaceutical executives in Congress, lamented the vast spending aimed against her, despite having a strong financial campaign backed by large donations. She remarked, “We’re standing three to one in TV spending and an onslaught of billionaires who spent millions peddling lies,” expressing that these tactics were intended to weaken her position.

8 July 2021- Riverside, California. US Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh arrives for Q and A questions with members of Luina Local 652 in Santa Ana, California. Department of Labor.

Despite the financial pressure, Porter, who has notably refused corporate PAC contributions, remained defiant, asserting her resilience and claiming that the establishment felt threatened by her campaign. Her campaign did benefit from significant donations, including over half a million dollars from lawyers and law firms and substantial contributions from tech giants and academic institutions, as reported by Open Secrets.

Adam Schiff, the seasoned Burbank Democrat, utilized his considerable campaign funds to target Steve Garvey, framing him as a dedicated Trump supporter, in what was perceived as a strategy to outmaneuver Porter and another Democrat contender, Barbara Lee. This approach potentially set the stage for a more straightforward battle in the deeply Democratic state come November.

The late Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat, now filled by an appointee of Gov. Gavin Newsom, will see Schiff likely facing off against Garvey in the fall election. While Schiff is anticipated to clinch the win, Garvey remains optimistic, challenging the expectations of his detractors.

In a surprising turn in California’s Senate race, former MLB All-Star Steve Garvey is currently leading over Rep. Adam Schiff, according to a recent Los Angeles Times/Berkeley IGS poll. Garvey, running as a Republican, has garnered 27% support, slightly edging out Schiff’s 25%.

The race, which is to fill the seat of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, is proving to be highly competitive, with Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee also in the mix, securing 19% and 8% of the support, respectively.

The poll indicates a tight race, with a margin of error of 2 percentage points, making the primary contest between Schiff and Garvey particularly close.

Dodgers legend Steve Garvey looks on during the Celebrity Sports Roast & Toast at #FanFest. Arturo Pardavila III, Wiki Commons.

The top two candidates from the March 5 primary will move on to the November runoff, a critical step in determining who will occupy the Senate seat. This election includes votes for both a partial and a full term in the Senate, with Garvey leading the partial-term race by a margin of 6 points over Schiff.

Garvey expressed his gratitude for the support, stating, “I am deeply humbled by the trust and support shown by Californians in this latest poll.” He emphasized his focus on addressing Californians’ concerns with “compassionate, common-sense solutions” over “tired political bickering.”

His campaign spokesman highlighted Garvey’s long-standing connection with Californians, suggesting it transcends political lines and will be a significant factor in the elections.

This recent surge in support for Garvey is attributed to a consolidation of Republican and conservative voters behind him, as noted by the pollsters. The low turnout anticipated for the primary race could also play to Garvey’s advantage, especially among Republican voters, older demographics, whites, and homeowners.

The poll, conducted between February 22-27, surveyed 6,536 registered voters in California, reflecting the evolving political landscape and voter preferences leading up to the primary.

A recent analysis by the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) of California paints a bleak picture of the state’s financial health, indicating a potential budget shortfall that could surpass previous estimates and reach up to $73 billion.

This alarming update comes after the LAO identified a significant $24 billion reduction in revenue, contributing to a $15 billion escalation in the state’s fiscal challenges. This adjustment means the forecasted deficit has grown from the initially estimated $58 billion to a possible $73 billion.

Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, made a guest appearance at the California Defense Leadership Summit in Sacramento, Calif., Aug. 30, 2022. (U.S. Space Force photo by Airman 1st Class Ryan Quijas).

The LAO’s report highlights that the final size of the budget gap will be influenced by several variables, including changes in spending dictated by formulas, with a notable impact from Proposition 98, which governs funding for schools and community colleges.

In response to the LAO’s findings, H.D. Palmer, Deputy Director of the California Department of Finance and spokesperson for Governor Gavin Newsom on budgetary matters, shared with Fox News Digital that their calculations show a different picture, with a projected shortfall of $38 million.

Palmer emphasized the uncertain nature of the fiscal outlook, especially with over $51 billion in income and corporate tax revenues expected by April, which could alter the current deficit projections.

Palmer advocated for immediate legislative action on budget measures that could provide $8 billion in solutions to mitigate the financial shortfall.

The fiscal challenges come at a time when Governor Newsom is raising his profile on the national stage and follows a period of significant population shifts in California. The state witnessed its first-ever population decrease in 2020 amidst strict COVID-19 lockdowns.

From January 2020 to July 2022, California saw a net loss of nearly 700,000 residents, with many relocating to states like Texas, Arizona, Florida, and Washington, according to census data.

Far-left California Gov. Gavin Newsom just rejected the “idea of paying reparations to descendants of slaves, after a state panel he signed into law calculated the state was liable for hundreds of billions of dollars,” according to Breitbart News. The move comes at the expense of his far-left base.

Newsom signed a 2020 law establishing a reparations task force that would study if California, which has been a free state from slavery since 1850, should send out reparations checks.

The panel determined that the state should dole out $1.2 million checks to descendants of slaves. That could amount to approximately $800 billion. To put it in perspective, California’s total expenditures in fiscal year (FY) 2022 were $510.0 billion, including general funds, other state funds, bonds, and federal funds, according to the Urban Institute.

After the determination, “Newsom declined to endorse the cash payments – which could reach as high as $1.2 million for a single recipient – recommended by his reparations task force, telling Fox News Digital that dealing with the legacy of slavery ‘is about much more than cash payments,’” wrote Fox News Digital.

He declined to advance any of the committee’s recommendations, instead pledging to “advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians.”

He said, “Dealing with that legacy is about much more than cash payments. Many of the recommendations put forward by the Task Force are critical action items we’ve already been hard at work addressing: breaking down barriers to vote, bolstering resources to address hate, enacting sweeping law enforcement and justice reforms to build trust and safety, strengthening economic mobility — all while investing billions to root out disparities and improve equity in housing, education, healthcare, and well beyond. This work must continue.”

Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) lashed out at her fellow Democrat colleague, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, blasting her lack of attendance and demanding the 89-year-old lawmaker resign.

She wrote on the Twitter alternative Bluesky that Feinstein must “retire,” saying, “I think criticisms of that stance as ‘anti-feminist’ are a farce.”

“Her refusal to either retire or show up is causing great harm to the judiciary – precisely where repro rights are getting stripped. That failure means now in this precious window Dems can only pass GOP- approved nominees,” wrote the New York socialist Democrat.

“The Squad member joins other leading progressives with her stance. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) was the first Democratic lawmaker to call for Feinstein to step down, followed closely by the more moderate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.). Fellow Squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) joined the calls last week,” The Hill reported.

Despite Feinstein telling Senate Democrat leadership to place a Democrat on the Judiciary Committee in her absence, that has not yet happened, leading to 10-10 tie votes on Joe Biden’s judicial nominees — a win for Republicans who want to block the most radical judges he has nominated to the Court.

Currently, three congressional Democrat U.S. Reps. Katie Hobbs, Brenda Lee, and Adam Schiff have announced campaigns for the U.S. Senate seat, of which Feinstein has said she will not run for another term.

Feinstein currently has been away from the Capitol for two months recovering from shingles. But AOC and others appear not to care about her ailments, demanding she resign. Similar calls were not made of U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who was gone for extended periods from the Capitol after being hospitalized at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.
