Google has decided to temporarily halt the functionality of its advanced AI image generator, Gemini, due to concerns over the creation of historically inaccurate images. 

The tech behemoth took to X/Twitter to announce that it is diligently working on refining the image generation feature of Gemini, particularly concerning depictions of historical events and figures. This move comes as a response to the tool’s tendency to produce images that, while diverse and generally inclusive, have not always aligned with historical accuracy.

The pause in Gemini’s image generation capability, specifically related to human figures, is seen as a step towards enhancing the tool’s reliability and factual correctness. 

Google’s commitment to rectifying these issues was further highlighted in a statement by Jack Krawczyk, the product lead, who emphasized the importance of accurate historical representation and the company’s ongoing efforts to improve the AI’s output in this regard.

“We’re already working to address recent issues with Gemini’s image generation feature. While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon,” the original tweet read.

An extensive cellphone service disruption impacted numerous users across the United States on Thursday morning, leading to significant inconveniences, including the inability of certain police departments to accept 911 emergency calls.

The outage predominantly affected AT&T customers, with reports of disruptions peaking at nearly 32,000 around 4:30 a.m., as per the outage monitoring service DownDetector. This service aggregates real-time outage information from various sources, including direct reports from users.

T-Mobile and Verizon customers also experienced over 800 reported incidents of service interruptions. A Verizon spokesperson attributed these issues to difficulties their customers faced when attempting to connect with individuals on other networks.

The service interruptions were widespread, affecting major cities such as New York, Boston, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Seattle, and even reaching as far as Montreal, Canada. Users of smaller mobile service providers, including Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular, and Straight Talk Wireless, also reported connectivity issues.

As a result of the outage, several police departments across the nation issued warnings about potential challenges in reaching emergency services. In addition, many AT&T customers found themselves in “SOS Mode,” limiting their phone use exclusively to emergency calls.

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, is releasing a Twitter-like app as early as June to go head-to-head with the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

“Instagram has been secretly testing a text-based app similar to Twitter for months with celebrities and influencers and is preparing to launch it as early as June, Bloomberg reported Friday, as some people look to leave Twitter due to changes made under CEO Elon Musk,” reported Fortune.

“The app will be separate from Instagram—which is owned by Meta—though users will be able to connect their accounts and follow all of the people they follow on Instagram on the new app with just one click, according to a screenshot posted by Lia Haberman, professor of social and influencer marketing at UCLA and author of the newsletter ICYMI.”

Haberman says users will be able to make posts with up to 500 characters, and it will be integrated with the social media site Mastodon, where many liberals have fled to after Musk’s $44 billion buyout of Twitter. 

The company has reportedly been testing its platform with celebrities and influencers ahead of its scheduled Summer launch.

“A recent study by Pew Research Center found that while people are still logging on Twitter, the most active Twitter users are posting about 25% less after Musk’s acquisition. The study also found that six in 10 Americans who used Twitter in the past year reported taking a break from the platform, and 25% of respondents said they aren’t likely to be on the platform one year from now,” added Fortune.

Mark Zuckerberg’s latest offering at Meta has the potential to either be a massive flop or be a competitive rival to Twitter. Only time will tell.

With the rise of artificial intelligence taking over the market, Joe Biden has now dubbed Kamala Harris his new “AI Czar.”

“Harris, who has the lowest approval rating of any modern vice president, will lead the initiative as AI czar, with a $140 million budget, the White House said,” according to Breitbart News.

“Vice President Harris and senior Administration officials will meet today with CEOs of four American companies at the forefront of AI innovation,” the Biden regime stated.

She is reportedly meeting with representatives from Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google to discuss potential measures to reduce AI’s “risks.”

The Biden regime wrote, “AI is one of the most powerful technologies of our time, but in order to seize the opportunities it presents, we must first mitigate its risks.”

Joe “Biden has been clear that when it comes to AI, we must place people and communities at the center by supporting responsible innovation that serves the public good, while protecting our society, security, and economy. Importantly, this means that companies have a fundamental responsibility to make sure their products are safe before they are deployed or made public,” the statement added.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has led to concerns over children being able to use the AI software to cheat in school. However, the technology has proven useful for various, wide-ranging tasks.

Kamala Harris was named “Border Czar,” where she has overseen the most aggressive invasion of the country’s southern border in recent memory, with over 5.5 million illegal aliens crossing into the United States since Biden took over, per October 2022 numbers. The numbers have likely ballooned far over six million by now.

On Wednesday, Meta, formerly Facebook, is set to have its latest round of mass layoffs. The mass firing will affect “a wide range of technical teams, including those working on Facebook, Instagram, Reality Labs, and WhatsApp,” according to a report from Vox, which broke the story.

Meta confirmed to the outlet that such plans were disseminated at the company and that the layoffs could be in the range of 4,000 employees. 

“This will be a difficult time as we say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have contributed so much to Meta,” Lori Goler, Meta’s head of people, said in the memo.

“Meta employees in North America will be notified by email between 4 am to 5 am PT Wednesday morning, according to Goler’s note. Outside of North America, the timelines will vary [from] country to country, and some countries will not be impacted,” the report continues.

For those employees whose jobs allow it, Meta is asking them to work remotely to give others “space to process the news.”

The company already cut 11,000 employees last November, with an announcement in early March that 10,000 more would be cut. With the expected 4,000 new cuts, that will leave 6,000 employees still on the chopping block for the company.

The company reportedly had 86,000 employees at the end of last year, so that figure is set to shrink to 76,000 once all announced layoffs are final.

“This will be tough and there’s no way around that,” Zuckerberg posted on Facebook last month. “Over the next couple of months, org leaders will announce restructuring plans focused on flattening our orgs, canceling lower priority projects, and reducing our hiring rates.”

According to a new business filing in Nevada, billionaire Tesla and Twitter chief Elon Musk has started a new artificial intelligence company, X.AI.

The March 9, 2023 filing shows Musk listed as the sole director, with Jared Birchall being the secretary.

“AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production,” Musk said in an interview airing Monday with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. “In the sense that it has the potential — however small one may regard that probability, but it is non-trivial — it has the potential of civilization destruction.”

Financial Times reported, “For the new project, Musk has secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia, said people with knowledge of the move. GPUs are the high-end chips required for his aim to build a large language model — AI systems capable of ingesting enormous amounts of content and producing humanlike writing or realistic imagery, similar to the technology that powers ChatGPT.”

Musk is recruiting engineers from top AI labs including DeepMind, according to those with knowledge of his plans, who said he began to explore the idea of a rival company earlier this year in response to the rapid progress of OpenAI.

Musk has brought on Igor Babuschkin, a former DeepMind employee, and roughly half a dozen other engineers. The Information previously reported Babuschkin’s early talks with Musk.

In a recent letter Musk signed calling for a pause in the training of AI systems, it read, “AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research and acknowledged by top AI labs.”

“Tesla was competing for some of the same people as OpenAI & I didn’t agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do,” Musk tweeted in 2019, adding that it was “better to part ways on good terms.” 

“While this venture, like many of Musk’s, may fall far short of the mark, there is no arguing that his activity in an industry tends to agitate it. One does not have to topple the market leader to influence events and gain a seat at the table — often all it takes is billions of dollars. And that is something Musk reliably seems to have at his disposal,” wrote TechCrunch’s Devin Coldewey regarding the speculation.

In 2019, Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI, which has now exploded on the internet with its ChatGPT artificial intelligence function, molding human-like responses to questions.

CNBC reported, “Microsoft’s once under-the-radar investment is now a major topic of discussion, both in venture circles and among public shareholders, who are trying to figure out what it means to the potential value of their stock. Microsoft’s cumulative investment in OpenAI has reportedly swelled to $13 billion and the startup’s valuation has hit roughly $29 billion.”

Because of the massive demand for the product, Microsoft’s cloud servers are seeing huge workloads due to companies and individuals flocking to the product.  

“Microsoft is integrating the technology into its Bing search engine, sales and marketing software, GitHub coding tools, Microsoft 365 productivity bundle and Azure cloud,” the report notes.

Michael Turrin of Wells Fargo notes that OpenAI could hit $30 billion in annual revenue, half of it being generated from the Azure cloud.

ChatGPT’s incredibly human-sounding responses have given it a major piece of the AI market share, although it faces challenges.

Google is trying to break into the AI sector with its artificial intelligence model called Bard. 

However, AI is under attack, with the non-profit Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy demanding the Federal Trade Commission stop OpenAI’s new commercial releases of GPT-4, calling it “biased, deceptive, and a risk to privacy and public safety.”

OpenAI’s likely next path is to start an IPO and go public, with a likely acquirer being Microsoft, although there remain FTC concerns. Despite this, Microsoft’s investment appears to be paying dividends, with ChatGPT the hottest and most talked about AI product on the market.
