The House voted in favor of the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act, a move celebrated by Republicans aiming to counter the Biden administration’s push for electric vehicles (EVs). 

The legislation, approved with a 221-197 vote, is designed to overturn federal regulations targeting gas-powered vehicles, including restrictive tailpipe standards proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). 

Joe Biden’s goal of ensuring 50% of car purchases are electric by 2030 faces resistance, with critics arguing that stringent emissions standards would increase vehicle costs, limit consumer choice, and disadvantage various U.S. populations. The CARS Act seeks to block EPA regulations and prevent mandates favoring specific technologies.
