On Friday, the International Emmy Awards announced their intention to give their annual Emmy Founders award to Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo for “his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic and his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world.”
The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner. “People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”
Cuomo has taken heat for allowing 6,200 seniors to be killed from COVID-19 during the pandemic. He had denied any responsibility, saying, “So it just never happened in New York where we needed to say to a nursing home, ‘We need you to take this person even though they’re Covid-positive.’ It never happened.”
Cuomo also took heat for joking with his brother on CNN about coronavirus, with his brother, Chris holding up a giant cotton swab.
Senior Meteorologist on Fox News, Janice Dean wrote a scathing op-ed blasting Cuomo’s response contributing to her in-laws’ death. She wrote:
The governor’s arrogance and failure to own up to his catastrophic decisions are finally catching up to him. Not only is his sickening poster getting attention for being tone deaf, but recently, Cuomo’s state health department came under fire after releasing an internal report on the spread of COVID-19. It purports to exonerate Cuomo’s administration and instead blames health care workers for the staggering death toll. Now, New York state lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are calling for an independent investigation.
