Trump bids farewell to U.S. Naval hospital ship Comfort as it sails to NY to aide in COVID-19 crisis

On Saturday, President Trump joined Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and others in Norfolk, VA to bid farewell to the U.S. Naval Ship Comfort as it travels from Virginia to New York to assist in the COVID-19 pandemic with its over 1,000 beds to help aide in the medical crisis.

“The United States Military is all-in on this national emergency,” said Esper in his opening remarks.

“You have the unwavering support of the entire nation, the entire government, and the entire American people,” said President Trump toward New Yorkers.

“We will stop at nothing to protect the health of New Yorkers and protect the people of our country in their hour of need,” Trump continued.

The U.S. Naval hospital ship Comfort will arrive in New York on Monday to begin aiding in the crisis.

The action comes one day after President Trump signed the $2.2 trillion relief package to help small businesses keep workers on the payroll, ensure Medicaid benefits, send direct payments to the American people, and send funds to hospitals hurt by the crisis.
