Billionaire Steyer claims his messaging, not his $106 million+ spent on ads put him on the debate stage

On Sunday’s “State of the Union” with CNN’s Jack Tapper, 2020 Democrat presidential candidate and billionaire Tom Steyer claimed his ability to get on the debate stage is not becuase of his money, but because of his “messaging.”

The comment raises eyebrows as he told Tapper, “I think that the thing that has put me on this stage — and it is the same for every single person who’s running for president — is message.”

Tapper fought back, saying, “The reason people can hear your message, of course, is because of the TV ads and the millions of dollars you’ve spent,” to which Steyer defended himself, describing himself as a “grassroots person.”

Tom Steyer has spent at over $106 million in advertising since his entrance into the Democrat 2020 primary race.
