Buttigieg hits millennial Bernie supporters: ‘I was a big fan of Bernie Sanders when I was 18 years old’

During an interview with CBS News’ Tony Dokoupil, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg was confronted about his abysmal 2% support from millennial voters.

When pressed, Buttigieg said, “There is going to be a continued process to earn support across the coalition, but it’s certainly the case that many of the younger voters are more attracted to — for example, the Sanders campaign definitely has more young voters.”

He then continued, “I was a big fan of Bernie Sanders when I was 18 years old,” inferring that Sen. Bernie Sanders’ supporters are young and inexperienced.

Many Sanders supporters back the socialized cancellation of student debt policy, which many candidates have embraced. Buttigieg, however, will not allow rich kids to get as much in educational assistance.

Buttigieg said his household has “six figures of student debt.” “But that doesn’t mean I can just say we’re going to make it all go away and it’s all free now.”

The Washington Post lauded Buttigieg’s plan as the “most progressive,” to which socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) got triggered by, accusing Buttigieg of using “GOP talking points.”
