According to new CDC records released today for 2016, the abortion rate is down by 2%, to 623,471.
Despite the statistics showing a decline in abortions, the numbers are incomplete, since they exclude data from California, Maryland, New Hampshire, and the District of Columbia.
The data shows that most women who get abortions are in their 20’s (58.5%), and black women accounting for the largest demographic getting abortions (38%).
Most abortions allegedly occurred during the first trimester of pregnancy (91%), however, 7.7% of abortions happened in the second trimester (up to 20 weeks), and 1.2% in the third trimester. NOTE: Since the data is incomplete, later-term abortions may be a much higher number.
Professor at Catholic University and associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute Dr. Michael New said, “Pro-lifers are passing protective laws, changing hearts and minds, and helping women through pregnancy help centers…. These new numbers from the CDC provide additional evidence that pro-life efforts to build a culture of life are succeeding.”
