Schiff says Senate GOP would turn impeachment inquiry into ‘circus’ if they have him testify

On Sunday morning, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and leading the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, joined CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” to discuss the Senate’s plans on having him testify once the House passes their articles of impeachment. 

When asked if he would testify, Shiff said “there is nothing to testify about. I think if the President or his allies in the Senate persist it means they are not serious about what they are doing.”

Schiff questioned, “What would I offer in terms of testimony that I heard Dr. (Fiona) Hill in open hearing say such and such? That is not pertinent. The only reason for them to go through with this is to mollify the President and that is not a good reason to try to call a member of Congress as a witness.”

Schiff added, “If they go down this road, it shows a fundamental lack of seriousness. A willingness to try to turn this into a circus like the President would like and I hope they don’t go there.”

Ironically, there is much for Schiff to testify about, especially because he is leading the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, which some have called a “witch hunt,” and he now says he does not know the identity of the whistleblower despite his staff speaking with them.

Also, the witnesses called in front of the House Intelligence Committee have merely spoken about their beliefs and their thoughts on supposed events that may or may not have happened, which bolsters Republicans’ arguments that Schiff has turned the proceedings into a circus.
