On Day two of the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into President Trump, Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) gagged Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) from questioning witness former Ukrainian Ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch after Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA), yielded his time to her.
Schiff vehemently quieted Stefanik, refusing to give an answer to why he was not allowing her to speak, and instead saying only Nunes or the Republican counsel was recognized.
Stefanik stated, “this is the fifth time you have interrupted members of Congress,” to which Schiff once again banged his gavel and proclaimed, “The gentlewoman will suspend.”
Nunes noted, “Mr. Chair, we control the time, and customary to this committee that whoever controls the time can yield to whomever they wish,” to which Schiff refused.
In frustration, Nunes yielded his time to Steve Castor, House Minority Council, to which he continued questioning Yovanovitch.
Finally, once Rep. Stefanik was recognized, she got all the answers she needed.
