EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin revealed Wednesday that his team has identified $20 billion in taxpayer money that he claims the Biden administration deliberately wasted. Speaking in a video posted to X, Zeldin cited a previously surfaced clip from December that showed a Biden-era EPA official discussing the rapid disbursement of funds before Inauguration Day.
“An extremely disturbing video circulated two months ago, featuring a Biden EPA political appointee talking about how they were ‘tossing gold bars off the Titanic,’ rushing to get billions of your tax dollars out the door before Inauguration Day,” Zeldin stated. “The ‘gold bars’ were tax dollars and ‘tossing them off the Titanic’ meant the Biden administration knew they were wasting it.”
According to Zeldin, the EPA has located the funds, which were “parked at an outside financial institution.” While he did not disclose the name of the institution, he insisted that the agency immediately terminate any agreement with the bank and reclaim the funds.
“This scheme was the first of its kind in EPA history,” he asserted. “It was purposefully designed to obligate all the money in a rush job with reduced oversight before Inauguration Day.”
A New Direction for the EPA
Since taking office as EPA administrator under President Donald Trump, Zeldin has pledged to tighten financial oversight and ensure taxpayer money is properly allocated. “The days of irresponsibly shoveling boatloads of cash to far-left activist groups in the name of environmental justice and climate equity are over,” he declared. “The American public deserves a more transparent and accountable government than what transpired these past four years.”
Zeldin also announced that he is referring the matter to the Inspector General’s office and will work with the Department of Justice to regain control of the funds. He emphasized that the EPA will review every penny that has gone out the door to ensure proper use.
Political Support and Future Steps
In his statement, Zeldin reaffirmed that his efforts align with President Trump’s commitment to reclaiming control of government spending. “Now we will get them back inside of control of government as we pursue next steps. As President Trump has vowed, we’re going to usher in a new Golden Age of American success for the citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed.”
The announcement has drawn praise from political allies, including Elon Musk, who posted on X commending Zeldin for an “awesome job” in protecting taxpayer funds.
As the investigation moves forward, Zeldin’s promise to rein in wasteful spending and increase financial accountability at the EPA is set to become a defining feature of his tenure.
