A 2019 ranking by GovTrack, which had identified Kamala Harris as the “most liberal senator,” was recently removed from their website.
GovTrack listed 100 senators in 2019, placing Harris at the top spot as the most liberal member, followed by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at #99.
However, the list is no longer accessible, with attempts to view the page now leading to a “page not found” message. GovTrack, known for its work in government transparency, describes itself as a platform that publishes “the status of federal legislation” and provides information on elected representatives and senators, including their voting records and original research on legislation.
The website claims to be “one of the oldest government transparency websites in the world.”
In a 2020 interview with CBS News’s Norah O’Donnell, Harris was asked about being “considered the most liberal United States senator.” She responded, “Somebody said that, and it was actually Mike Pence on the debate stage,” referencing her vice-presidential debate with Pence. O’Donnell then clarified that the “nonpartisan” GovTrack had given her that ranking, citing her support for policies like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All.
This removal of the list follows other recent clarifications about Harris’s past roles and statements. Axios recently issued an article update correcting an earlier description of Harris as a “border czar,” noting that the term had been incorrectly attributed to her by various lawmakers and media outlets.
The recent developments come after Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the upcoming presidential race, endorsing Vice President Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
Harris has since received endorsements from prominent Democrats, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD), Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), former President Bill Clinton, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
