Keith Olbermann, a former host on MSNBC known for his radical leftist views, has sparked controversy with his recent comment on social media that seemed to suggest 45th President Donald Trump should be assassinated.
Olbermann’s contentious remark came in response to a post by Joe Biden’s campaign team on X. The post in question shared a clip from a speech Trump delivered in Dayton, Ohio, highlighting Trump’s claim of being treated worse than Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated. Olbermann’s reply to this was cryptic yet provocative: “There’s always hope.”
This comment quickly ignited a firestorm of criticism, with numerous users condemning Olbermann for insinuating violence against Trump due to their political differences. No stranger to controversy, Olbermann has previously attracted criticism for his vehement and polarizing statements on social media.
His history of incendiary comments includes a derogatory remark aimed at Bill Maher, the liberal host of HBO, whom Olbermann labeled a “scumbag” for Maher’s stance on the Hollywood writers’ strike. Furthermore, Olbermann had a harsh exchange with Riley Gaines, a champion swimmer, whom he told bluntly that she “sucked” at her sport.
Another notable instance of Olbermann’s contentious social media activity occurred last year when he called for blue states to initiate an “economic civil war” against red states, further showcasing his penchant for extreme and divisive rhetoric.
Olbermann’s latest comment has once again put him in the spotlight, drawing criticism not just for the apparent incitement but also for the overall tone and approach he employs in his political discourse. Critics argue that such statements, especially coming from a figure with a significant following and media presence, could further polarize an already divided nation and potentially incite harmful actions.
X has since removed Olbermann’s post, noting it “violated the X rules.”
