Trouble stewing at White House as two top Biden press officials spar

Recent reports indicate growing tensions in the White House briefing room, particularly between Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and National Security Spokesman John Kirby. This development follows the increased presence of Kirby alongside Jean-Pierre at press briefings since the terror attack by Hamas against Israel on October 7. The dynamic between the two has reportedly become strained, especially over the division of speaking time at the podium.

Kirby, who has become a prominent foreign policy voice during the conflict, has shown interest in the role of White House Press Secretary. Despite this, Jean-Pierre reportedly intends to remain in her position if Joe Biden desires. Contrary to some reports, a White House official has refuted the suggestion that Kirby is actively pursuing the Press Secretary role.

Jean-Pierre has conducted mostly joint briefings with Kirby or occasionally with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan since the Hamas attack. Kirby’s continued involvement in the briefings is believed to be at the behest of Joe Biden, who values Kirby’s briefings and has included him in both domestic and international travels.

There have been suggestions that Jean-Pierre’s approach to managing press questions for Kirby stems from her own frustrations or insecurities. However, a White House official has dismissed these claims, asserting that Jean-Pierre and Kirby share a positive, collaborative relationship.

The roots of the reported tension date back to the start of Jean-Pierre’s tenure as Press Secretary, when she was informed that Kirby would be joining the team, leading to some initial confusion about her role. Kirby’s appointment as “Coordinator for Strategic Communications” at the National Security Council was a decision made by former White House Chief of Staff Rob Klain, the White House, and the NSC. This move was reportedly surprising to members of the NSC.

Some Biden officials have pointed to Klain and Senior Adviser Anita Dunn for their roles in creating the current arrangement, which has been a source of internal debate.

  1. It’s not likely they will give up the “black lesbian” -point winning position but He may have a chance–it won’t last long if he doesn’t tell the exact lie of the day.
