Speaker Johnson says he has votes for Biden impeachment inquiry

On Saturday, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed confidence that House Republicans have enough votes to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. He stated that the move has become “a necessary step” due to obstruction from the White House regarding the three GOP-led House committees conducting the impeachment inquiry. Johnson, alongside GOP caucus chair Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, plans to bring a vote on impeachment, emphasizing a methodical approach in contrast to previous instances.

Johnson accused the White House of stonewalling by preventing DOJ witnesses from coming forward and withholding thousands of pages of evidence. He believes a formal impeachment inquiry vote is the next necessary step, asserting that the GOP will likely have sufficient votes and doesn’t anticipate Democratic support.

The White House, characterizing the GOP’s efforts as “illegitimate,” has not immediately responded to the accusations. Republicans leaving a closed-door conference meeting indicated that the House could vote on authorizing the impeachment inquiry as early as next week.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, who accused the Biden family of shady business practices due to mountains of evidence in the forms of checks and bank records, wants the vote sooner, mentioning growing Republican support following the Thanksgiving break.

Notably, in September, then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the opening of a Biden impeachment inquiry, instructing three committees to obtain bank records and documents from Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.

Last month, House Republicans issued subpoenas related to the family’s business dealings, alleging over 20 shell companies were established to conceal payments from foreign adversaries.

  1. Great! James Comer is doing a great job and clearly believes in what he’s doing. Despite being thoroughly disgusted with 95% of both houses there are a few worth keeping. I keep wondering exactly how many of them were actually elected and how many were selected by George Soros et. al.

  2. We all know that these “Do Nothing Republicans” will not do one thing to support impeachment of Joe Biden. In fact, 90% did nothing to stop the 2 Trump impeachments. They all are phoney BS artists.
