GOP overturns pro-abortion Democrat governor’s veto of pro-life bill

On Tuesday, the North Carolina General Assembly overrode far-left pro-abortion Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of a bill that protects human life in the womb from the 12th week.

CNN bemoaned, “The veto override was completed in a 72-48 vote in the state House after the state Senate voted earlier on Tuesday override the governor. A three-fifths vote in both chambers, where Republicans hold supermajorities, was necessary to override.”

Last month, Rep. Tricia Cotham, a former Democrat, switched parties to become a Republican, giving the chamber a veto-proof supermajority.

“The bill – Senate Bill 20, dubbed the ‘Care for Women, Children and Families Act’ – bans any licensed physician from performing surgical abortions after the 12th week of pregnancy. It provides exceptions in the case of rape and incest through 20 weeks of pregnancy or in the event of a ‘life-limiting anomaly’ through 24 weeks,” CNN added.

The new law banning abortion after 12 weeks strengthens the state’s already 20-week abortion restrictions.

The blow to Cooper is the latest Republican pro-life victory to stand for the right to life in America as Democrats are pushing abortion up-to-birth policies in left-wing states such as New York and New Mexico.
