Chicago’s Lori Lightfoot attacks GOP governor in one of final acts as mayor

Chicago’s Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot is a sitting duck waiting for the inauguration of her successor, far-left Democrat Brandon Johnson, who trounced her in the February 28, 2023 election, with Lightfoot coming in a distant third. Johnson won the April 4 runoff election over Paul Vallas.

Now, Lightfoot is renewing her feud with Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX), warning him not to send any more illegal aliens to Chicago (a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants) in one of her final acts before Johnson is sworn in on May 15, 2023.

In a Sunday letter, Lightfoot claimed the move by the Republican governor to bus illegals to Chicago was “inhumane and dangerous” and urged him to cease the practice.

“Since we began responding to the arrival of migrants sent by your delegation in August 2022, we have shouldered the responsibility of caring for more than 8,000 men, women, and children with no resources of their own. That number continues to grow. Nearly all the migrants have been in dire need of food, water, and clothing and many needed extensive medical care,” she wrote, claiming Abbott treated the illegal immigrants like “freight.”

“To tell them to go to Chicago or to inhumanely bus them here is an inviable and misleading choice,” she wrote. “Though I am sympathetic to the significant challenges that border cities face, this situation is completely untenable. The national immigration problem will not be solved by passing on the responsibility to other cities.”

She then threatened to tell federal partners to cut off Texas’ funding over the chartered buses, saying, “I will continue calling on the federal government for more resources and support, as well as much needed policy changes, just as I will call upon them to withhold all FEMA funding slated for Texas if chartered buses resume coming to our city.”

“The immigration crisis is a national challenge that requires national collaboration. For the good of our country and the individuals who are seeking safety in refuge, let’s work together to find a real solution. And that real solution will never be the unilateral bussing of migrants to cities like Chicago,” she concluded.

However, commenters were quick to blast Lightfoot over the letter due to Democrats, such as her adding to the border crisis by backing Joe Biden’s open border policies taht have created the immigration catastrophe.

“Democrats voted for the open border & mass migration. I thought y’all were tolerant of migrants. Ironic how now you all are showing your true colors,” wrote Juan Mendoza Díaz of the Laredo-based news organization Noticias en la Frontera.

Others wrote, “So Texas should shoulder the burden of millions of illegal immigrants while Illinois democrats score self-esteem points by declaring their governed areas a sanctuary? pretty easy to talk the talk when the border is a thousand miles away and bad border policy doesn’t reach you.”

Some noted that the mass exodus of people from Chicago should make more than enough room for the illegal immigrants in the so-called “sanctuary city.”
