Republican rep. turns on pro-lifers

Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) sided with congressional Democrats on Monday regarding a recent ruling from U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk of Texas that temporarily halted the use of two drugs involved in medication abortions.

When asked if the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should ignore Kacsmaryk’s ruling, she replied, “I would, yes,” while appearing on CNN This Morning

“This is an FDA-approved drug,” she said, noting, “I support the usage of FDA-approved drugs even if we might disagree. It’s not up to us to decide as legislators or even as the court system whether or not this is the right drug to use or not.”

“So I agree with ignoring it at this point, but there are other lawsuits that are happening right now in other states as well over this issue.”

She concluded, “We’ve got some extreme views on this issue, but 90% of America is somewhere in the middle, and I think that 90% would be OK with listening to the FDA rather than a judge who used an old law that was determined unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. I think the vast majority of Americans would support that decision.”

Mace recently introduced a bill to “designate executions for women having abortions as cruel and unusual punishment,” according to Count on 2. It is unclear why she is focusing on this topic in particular.

Mace garnered an unsuccessful Republican primary challenger in 2022, former South Carolina lawmaker Katie Arrington, who had the endorsement of President Donald Trump. It is unclear if Arrington will challenge Mace again for the seat.
