President Trump declares churches ‘essential,’ commands governors to let them reopen

On Friday afternoon, President Donald J. Trump declared all houses of worship “essential,” commanding governors to “do the right thing” and let places of faith open for services.

He said, “I call upon governors to allow our churches and places of worship to open right now. If there’s any question, they’re going to have to call me but they’re not going to be successful in that call.”

The President did not take questions from the media, and said, “If they don’t do it I will override the governors. America we need more prayer, not less.”
