New $2 trillion COVID-19 stimulus bill includes $25 million in salaries for House of Representatives

According to the updated text of the emergency COVID-19 bill released by the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, the new text of the bill appears to include a $25 million raise for the House of Representatives.

Text of the bill on page 172 reads, $25,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2021, except that $5,000,000 shall remain available until expended, to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, domestically or internationally, to be allocated in accordance with a spend plan submitted to the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives by the Chief Administrative Officer and approved by such Committee: Provided, That such amount is designated by the Congress as being for an emergency requirement…”

Other such “pork” stuffed in the newest form of the bill is $25 million in appropriations for the John F. Kenndy Center for the Performing Arts, outlined on page 113 of the proposal and millions to private institutions, Howard University with $13 million, Gallaudet University with $7 million.
