Matt Gaetz adopts Bernie Sanders’ no-PAC promise

On Thursday, Rep. Matt Gaetz spoke in front of CPAC, telling the audience he plans to swear off of PAC money, a position mostly taken up by far-left socialist candidates, such as Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). PACs, as in any monetary contribution, are a form of free speech and have limits.

“I will never again accept a donation from a federal political action committee — not one red cent. The American people are my one special interest,” said Gaetz, then going on to try and back up his position by throwing red meat to his base by taking easy jabs at Bernie Sanders and “socialism.”

In January, Gaetz voted with far-left Democrats on a hyper-partisan bill to try and limit President Trump’s war powers, which struck a chord with conservatives, who used to see Gaetz as a conservative fighter — suddenly choosing to defect on the President for a Democrat bill.

He also bashed Trump’s advisors, claiming they are “trying to slow-walk the administration into war.”

After the CPAC speech, RedState pondered if Gaetz’s speech was a sign he may run for President in 2024, asking in the title of the article, “Did Matt Gaetz Just Declare His 2020 Candidacy?” Gaetz retweeted the article, saying, “The best is yet to come,” a clear indication that he is considering throwing his hat in the ring for 2024.
