Democrat governor’s fmr. congressional intern arrested for vandalizing NM GOP headquarters

On Wednesday, it was reported that a former intern for Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) was arrested for vandalizing the Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) headquarters over the weekend in Albuquerque.

The suspect, Cameron “Chase” McCall is accused of writing the word “still traitors” on the stucco facade of the building, but the suspect was caught on video camera, but quickly identified and reported by an anonymous tip.

Lujan Grisham spokesman Tripp Stelnicki confirmed that McCall was a congressional intern for Lujan Grisham when she was a member of the U.S. House. Stelnicki condemned the vandalism.

The Republican Party of New Mexico declined to comment. Party officials estimate the damage to the building at around $2,500 to $4,000.

The RPNM headquarters was previously vandalized in March 2019, tagging the building with the word “traitors” in the same color of spray paint as McCall painted over the weekend. It is not immediately known whether McCall is responsible for both incidents.

In July 2017, two activists from the “radical left” group Betsy Riot spray-painted an “A” on the New Mexico Republican Party headquarters’ sign.
