WATCH: Trump signs the historic USMCA trade agreement, replacing NAFTA ‘catastrophe’

On Monday, President Trump signed the historic USMCA trade agreement, which replaces its predecessor NAFTA, which even the farthest-left news site Huffington Post called it a “disaster.”

During his 2016 campaign, President Trump made the replacement of NAFTA a major campaign promise.

Before signing the USMCA agreement at the White House ceremony, President Trump called NAFTA a “catastrophe.”

“Thanks to our leadership, NAFTA ends today and a new era of jobs and growth begins under the USMCA,” said Vice President Mike Pence.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer thanked the USTR staff, as well as many of the agencies contributing to the agreement, as well as Jared Kushner and ambassadors involved in the negotiations.

He said, “I mostly want to thank the President of the UUnited States…for always being supportive during very difficult times. To do this and to do it under these circumstances is a monumental part of your legacy, and I’m happy to be part of it.” In closing, he said, “All I can say is…promise made, and three years later, promise kept.”

Trump touted all the investments that have been secured, such as increased buying of American goods, more protections for intellectual property, and the creation of new jobs during the process. He also touted the creation of seven million new jobs in America.

“We are doing better than any country anywhere in the word, and it’s not even close,” said President Trump.

The agreement, which passed both houses of Congress with bipartisan support is a huge win for President Trump and his supporters, despite the ineffective Democrat House majority stymieing critical legislation.
