Buttigieg met with fury after he blames the U.S. for Iran shooting down Ukranian airliner, killing 176

On Thursday, following news that Iran shot the Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 airliner out of the sky, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg took to Twitter seeming to try and pin blame on the United States for the reckless and deadly move, which resulted in all 176 passengers and crew dead.

Buttigieg wrote, “Innocent civilians are now dead because they were caught in the middle of an unnecessary and unwanted military tit for tat. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of all 176 souls lost aboard this flight.”

Thousands took to Twitter to blast Buttigieg’s reckless comment. Texas state Rep. James White wrote, “Your comment is so disrespectful & unbecoming of a presidential hopeful.”

Twitter comedian Mark Dice wrote, “I just ran out of coffee. That too is Trump’s fault.”

OAN News host Liz Wheeler commented, “No, innocent civilians are dead because Iran has waged acts of war on the U.S. for decades & Obama’s appeasement led Iran to believe they could kill us without consequences. If Iran hadn’t killed Americans, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s not a “both sides” thing. Period.”

NewsBusters editor Curtis Houck responded, “If running for president doesn’t work, Mr. Mayor, you should apply to be a host, correspondent, or even president of Iranian state-run @PressTV.”

The South Bend mayor appears to be striking chords and bringing forth questions about his patriotism after appearing to blame America for the senseless loss of life caused by Iran.
