Trump blasts Obama for funding Iran’s terrorism, lauds U.S. military strength in address to the nation

On Wednesday morning, President Trump addressed the nation after Iran shot missiles at U.S. military bases in Iraq, in apparent retaliation for terrorist warlord General Qasem Soleimani’s death by an American airstrike. Soleimani was struck after Iran aggravated tensions in the region by killing an American contractor and attacking the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

President Trump opened his address by strongly stating, “As long as I’m President of the United States, Iran will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.”

During the address, President Trump called Iran’s actions, “destructive,” praising America’s Military. Trump said, “Our great American forces are prepared for anything.”

“Iran’s hostility greatly increased after the foolish Iran Nuclear Deal, which was signed in 2013, and they were given $150 billion, not to mention $1.8 billion in cash,” Trump continued.

Trump addressed last night’s missile attack by blaming the Obama Administration’s failed foreign policy for directly funding the terrorist leaders. He said, “The missiles fired last night at us and our allies were paid for with the funds made available by the last administration.”

Regarding the killing of savage warlord Qasam Soleimani, Trump said, “Soleimani’s hands were drenched in both American and Iranian blood. He should have been terminated long ago.”

Also, during the speech, President Trump asked NATO to get more involved in the Middle East conflict and rejected the United States’ need for Middle East oil.

Trump spoke directly to the people of Iran, stating,  “We want you to have a future, a great future, one that you deserve…. The United States is ready to embrace peace for all who seek it.”

The short speech did not call for any further strikes to Iran and appears to embrace a peaceful settlement with the country.

Congress will be briefed on the situation this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. after the President’s announcement.
