The Golden Globes might be worth watching this year — host Ricky Gervais refuses to be PC

Although Hollywood is chock-full of radical left-wing extremists, usually pandering to the world about social justice, environmental activism, and the flavor of the year in regard to trying to be “woke,” they won’t be in their typical Hollywood safe space for this year’s Golden Globes.

The rich, famous, privileged, and entitled Hollywood elites will arrive at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA to dine on a vegan meal and fawn over each others’ awards. But they may not be entirely spared from scrutiny for their liberal extremism, with British comedian and The Office creator Ricky Gervais taking the microphone as the host.

In the past, Gervais has triggered Hollywood elites when hosting the show before with his dry, British humor, joking about their layers of plastic surgery, the movies of the year, and even making light of presenters’ accents.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Gervais was challenged about a tweet joking about transgenders, to which he’s refusing to apologize because it is after all a joke.

When asked about Todd Phillip, who directed the Joker and Hangover films, who said woke culture is ruining comedy, Gervais agreed.

Gervais said, “People like the idea of freedom of speech until they hear something they don’t like. So there’s still a pressure, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to water it down or back down and not say what I want. It’s just another form of what we’ve been through many, many times — it used to be called P.C. I think those things start off with very good intention and then they’re mugged. It’s a good thing to not be racist and sexist and homophobic. But it’s not a good thing to not be allowed to make jokes about those things, because you can tell a joke about race without being racist. I’m happy to play by the rules. It’s just that the 200 million people watching have different rules. That’s the plight. When people say, ‘He crossed the line,’ I say, ‘I didn’t draw a line, you did.’ It’s relative. It’s subjective.”

The refreshingly pro-free speech host should bring back a show of fun, comedy, and a good time for all audiences not looking to worry about “woke culture.”

Gervais promises to go after “pretension and hypocrisy,” while joking about actors and movies. I will definitely be watching the Golden Globes this year with my popcorn in hand, ready for an exciting show.
