During a Monday CBS Evening News broadcast, a photograph of deceased Rep. Elijah Cummings was labeled as Rep. John Lewis, sparking backlash for racism.
One Twitter user wrote, “Unacceptable & racist! CBS once again proves they’re #FakeNews.”
Another commenter wrote, “First you do this to [Rep. Elijah Cummings] and now to [Rep. John Lewis] You must do better. Unacceptable. Let’s face it. You would never mix up two old white guys.”
After massive criticism, CBS News released a statement writing, “Tonight on the 6:30 p.m. ET broadcast of the CBS Evening News, one photograph was misidentified as Congressman John Lewis. We have replaced the photo in all broadcasts and platforms. We deeply regret the error.”
