Snowflake alert: Lib website claims Hallmark movies are ‘fascist propaganda’

In an unhinged Salon.com Christmas Day op-ed, Amanda Marcott makes the wild and hysterical claim that Hallmark movies are “fascist propaganda.”

Because the network previously pulled a controversial ad which showed a lesbian wedding and same-sex kiss, Marcott isn’t happy.

She claims that the movies shown on the network are “like a trip into an uncanny valley of shiny-teethed, blow-dried heteronormative whiteness, with only a few token movies with characters of color.”

Well, she didn’t stop there, writing that these movies “constitute the platonic ideal of fascist propaganda.” The evidence given for the claim is that since Hitler and Nazi Germany approved of light-hearted movies, then all movies must somehow be fascistic, and so Hallmark must also be fascist.

Ok, hold the phone, Amanda. If I’m expected to believe that all movies that have a stereotypical plot with heterosexual characters and not an over-sampling of minority groups than the population is fascistic, then most Disney and Hollywood films that have been made since the dawn of the genre are, indeed fascistic artifacts that should be relegated to the history books, that is, if they haven’t been burned by the Left yet.

The rest of the article pretty much just labels other entities, such as the conservative website The Federalist as fascistic and “anti-Semitic” despite no evidence showing otherwise.

Other points include baseless claims that no or few characters are “LGBTQ+,” despite many films, such as the 2010 classic “Holiday in Handcuffs” that often shows on Hallmark, which explicitly features a gay brother, Jake, welcomed kindly in the movie’s family structure.

In sum, Salom.com is trash, and the idiotic claims of “fascism” about benign family Christmas movies are absurd to say the least.
