Ex-Nadler staffer urges Senate to call Hunter Biden as witness in impeachment trial

On Monday, NBC News published a piece by the former press secretary to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Eric Schmeltzer, where he proposed the idea of calling forth Hunter Biden as a witness in the U.S. Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

Schmeltzer writes, “Democrats should welcome everyone, from Hunter Biden, to former Democratic National Committee staffer Alexandra Chalupa, who Trump and the White House claim was central to a conspiracy around Ukraine and the 2016 elections.”

He claims that these “conspiracy theories” have been debunked and so they should be brought out of the darkness to somehow prove exoneration.

Schmeltzer also makes the argument that McConnell will call whoever Trump requests to the stand, and so, “there is no downside for Schumer.”

Another point he contends is that “By all accounts, Biden’s only crime was using his name to make money, and then failing to deliver on the inside connections that the Ukrainian natural gas company, Burisma, expected from him.”

If he is right, then Democrats do, truly have nothing to worry about by putting Hunter Biden on the stand, but of wrong, the mess-up could blow up in their faces and give credence to the Republicans’ argument that the impeachment is a sham.

We will see how the witness list gets assembled by the Senate, but if they take Schmeltzer’s advise, the hearings should be extremely interesting.
