Conservative champion Rep. Mark Meadows retiring from Congress

On Thursday, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), a founder of the conservative Freedom Caucus in the House, announced he will not seek re-election

Meadows sent out a statement, which read, “My work with President Trump and his administration is only beginning. This President has accomplished incredible results for the country in just three years, and I’m fully committed to staying in the fight with him and his team to build on those successes and deliver on his promises for the years to come,” Meadows said. “I’ve always said Congress is a temporary job, but the fight to return Washington, DC to its rightful owner, We The People, has only just begun.”

Meadows’ announcement will be an end of an era for one of the most conservative, most pro-Trump members of the Freedom Caucus. Yet, the political end may not be over for Meadows, as he may find a place in President Trump’s campaign and administration.
