During a Sunday morning interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), admitted that the impeachment inquiry is the last resort for Democrats to stop President Trump from being re-elected.
Chuck Todd asked, “If [Trump] is acquitted, do you believe we will have a fair election in 2020?”
Nadler responded with, “I don’t know. The President — based on his past performance — will do everything he can to make it not a fair election, and that is part of what gives us the urgency to proceed with this impeachment.”
After Nadler’s answer, Todd ceased the interview, without proof from Nadler of his claim that Trump will “make it not a fair election,” or further details on the “urgency” of the process.
The comment comes after Nadler said during a November CNN interview that he would keep up “the appearance of an open mind” regarding the outcome of the impeachment inquiry, despite already knowing from the beginning that he is for impeachment.
Nadler joins Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Al Green (D-TX) in admitting that impeachment is the Democrats’ only defense against a Trump re-election.
