Willie Nelson, 86, is giving up his beloved marijuana due to the toll it has placed on his lungs over the years.
Nelson said, “I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful.”
He continued, recounting his past smoking habits, saying, “I started smoking cedar bark, went from that to cigarettes to whatever,” he said. “And that almost killed me.”
“I don’t smoke anymore – take better care of myself,” Nelson said. Despite his fragile condition from his recreational use of marijuana, Nelson doesn’t have any plans of retiring from touring or performing.
