NM pro-life leader running to be first Native American in the U.S. Senate

Elisa Martinez, a New Mexico pro-life leader and Executive Director for the New Mexico Alliance for Life, announced her run on the Republican ticket for the United States Senate.

If elected, Martinez would be the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from New Mexico, and the first Native American elected to the U.S. Senate. She would also be the first Hispanic woman elected to the U.S. Senate from New Mexico.

During a well-attended campaign announcement event at Hotel Chaco in Albuquerque, NM, Martinez fired up the crowd, announcing she’s running for the U.S. Senate to stand up for “our faith, our families, our freedoms, and our traditional New Mexico values”

Martinez told attendees, “New Mexico can be first in everything good and last in everything bad,” and despite it being a “David and Goliath” fight, where millions of dollars will flow from Washington D.C. and deep-pocketed out-of-state donors, “we have taken on Goliath before and won.”

She closed by saying, “When we win, it will be because yet again the people of New Mexico came together, they worked hard, they prayed hard and they never gave up.”

To that, the crowd began chanting “Elisa! Elisa! Elisa! Elisa!” as she stepped from the podium.

Martinez joins Republican contenders Mick Rich, who unsuccessfully ran for Senate against incumbent Sen. Martin Heinrich, former professor Dr. Gavin Clarkson, among others. Martinez wins the Republican nomination, she will face Democrat Ben Ray Luján, the current U.S. Representative from New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District.
