FACT CHECK: AOC claims impeachment inquiry opened because of Ukraine transcript.

On Thursday, during a Twitter spat with President Trump, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment inquiry was opened because of the transcript from Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Her claim seems to disagree with the truth, especially since Nancy Pelosi announced her impeachment inquiry on September 24, and President Trump released the phone call transcript on September 25, meaning Pelosi didn’t have the record of the call to open her investigation.

Ocasio Cortez’s tweet was in response to President Trump’s tweet, “READ THE TRANSCRIPT,” and multiple other Twitter followers clapped back at the freshman congresswoman, telling her she was wrong, including the Trump War Room. Ocasio-Cortez’s mistake is not the first she has made, including one instance, where she insisted detained migrants were forced to drink from toilets, despite the fact that they weren’t.
