Trump WH announces ceasefire with Turkey after ‘tough love’ negotiations

On Thursday, amid tensions with Turkey and the Kurds in Syria, President Trump’s A-team, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Vice President Mike Pence, negotiated a 120-hour ceasefire with the President of Turkey, to allow the Kurdish-led forces to withdraw from the 20-mile-wide zone on the Turkish-Syrian border.

Vice President Pence said, “We think the agreement today first ends the violence, which is what President Trump sent us here to do.”

The Turkish offensive began after President Trump announced the withdrawal of American troops from northern Syria, a move to fulfill his promise to stop endless wars. Despite criticism by some on the right, and many on the left, it appears President Trump’s promises are being fulfilled.

In celebration, President Trump declared on Twitter, “This is a great day for civilization. I am proud of the United States for sticking by me in following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. People have been trying to make this “Deal” for many years. Millions of lives will be saved. Congratulations to ALL!”

Trump also tweeted that “This deal could NEVER have been made 3 days ago. There needed to be some “tough” love in order to get it done. Great for everybody. Proud of all!”

While speaking to the press, President Trump said “I want to thank the Kurds, because they were incredibly happy with this solution. This is a solution that really — well it saved their lives, frankly. It saved their lives,” Trump said. “I just want to thank and congratulate President Erdoğan. He’s a friend of mine, and I’m glad we didn’t have a problem. Frankly, he’s a hell of a leader. And he’s a tough man, he’s a strong man.”
